The amount of severance pay to offer prospective terminees can also pose challenges for any employer. Then there's always the concern of age discrimination. Do your terminees have grounds to sue based on age discrimination, even if a separation agreement is in place? Both separation and settlement agreements often include both a release and a covenant-not-to-sue. The legal difference between a release and a covenant-not-to-sue is subtle but significant. Join us on August 31st for an in-depth look at separation and release agreements as they affect today's employer. We'll also go over what to do when things don't go as planned.

Your employee handbook is a crucial tool for conveying the principles, policies, procedures, and benefits of your organization. But if you fail to create or revise your handbook the right way, it becomes the strongest weapon to a disgruntled employee and his or her attorney.

Join us as we discuss the do's and don'ts for creating and revising employee handbooks. You'll learn exactly how to make sure your employee handbook is not a lawsuit waiting to happen, and your toughest questions will be answered during our question and answer session.

Program #4: Employee Record Management – What to Keep, Purging Files and Avoiding Employment Litigation

Employers balance their ability to manage their business with their right to obtain information about their employees. Various federal and state laws mandate record retention practices. Are you confident that you are in compliance—recognizing what information you should be keeping; what information should be maintained separately; and how to appropriately discard information in order to minimize your exposure to potential risks of employment litigation? Join us as we explore these issues and more as they relate to paper record retention.

*This program has been approved for 1.5 recertification credit hour toward PHR and SPHR recertification through the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI) and 1.5 CM Continuing Education Credits.

Program #5:
"Internal Affairs" -- The Risks of Workplace Romance and How Employers Should Protect Themselves

Romance in the workplace has long been a problematic issue for employers. Recent court rulings have complicated the situation by imposing greater obligations on employers to ensure that both parties act professionally (especially after the relationship ends) and that other employees aren't adversely affected (or perhaps even offended). Learn what you can do manage these difficult -- and potentially expensive -- situations.

*This program has been approved for 1.5 recertification credit hour toward PHR and SPHR recertification through the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI), .15 CEU, and 1.5 CM Continuing Education Credits.
