Fighting FMLA Fraud: Managing Legitimate Absences While Minimizing Abuse

FMLA cases continue to make their way through the courts, with an average of $87,500 to $450,000 in damages paid to employees who successfully sue for wrongful termination based on an FMLA absence (Equal Employment Opportunity Commission). In this audioconference, Jim Brown will give an FMLA legislative update, including recent cases and their implications as well as changes in state laws.

Jim Brown

Jim is responsible for program design and quality of service delivery at ComPsych, provider of employee assistance programs and behavioral health, work-life, wellness and absence management services.
Jim oversees ComPsych’s absence management operations, helping large corporations such as GE manage FMLA and other employee absences. Prior to ComPsych, he has held positions in operations and staff development for a large health care organization as well as an insurance provider.
Brown earned his juris doctorate as well as his master’s degree in business administration from The University of Iowa. He received his Chartered Life Underwriters Designation in 2000 and Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriters Designation in 1990.
