Drug Testing in Today’s Workplace - What Every Employer Must Know

Twenty years ago employers questioned whether or not to conduct drug testing. Was it legal? Was it accurate? Could it really ensure a drug-free workplace? Those questions have been answered in the affirmative and today thousands of companies from virtually every size category and industry conduct drug testing. The question most pressing for employers now is “how to get the most out of drug testing?” What can you do to ensure that your drug testing program is as efficient and cost-effective as possible? Are there alternatives to traditional lab-based urine testing that can help companies increase their return on investment from drug testing?

The answer to these questions is a resounding… YES! Today there are a number of viable options well worth considering. In fact, for human resource managers and executives who must balance ever tightening budgets an on-site, instant result urine drug testing program result in an overall cost reduction of 20 percent of more. And an instant or lab-based oral fluid testing program may represent even greater savings. For any company concerned about the negative and costly effects of workplace substance abuse, drug testing is a critical program to maintain. However, there are ways to ensure that you get every dollars worth out of your program.
