| Safety and Health Performance Metrics

|
Without sound metrics, program performance cannot be gauged nor compared with prior performance to discover trends nor used to produce meaningful unit-to-unit performance comparisons among units of unequal population. Criteria for establishing the metrics are more demanding and complex that is customarily appreciated, even by experienced safety professionals.
Measuring safety and health performance has traditionally been dominated by the use of incidence rates. This audio conference examines the problems with this using incidence rates and other “trailing metrics”, including a thorough review of the various sources of bias in OSHA data. We'll also focus on Measures of injury rate experience that produce easily interpreted, unambiguous results to enable trend observations and to support equitable workforce-to-workforce comparisons that are trustworthy. |
