Jerry Scannell

Former President of the National Safety Council, Former VP of Safety at Johnson & Johnson, and former assistant secretary for OSHA.
Jerry Scannell is senior editor of Compliance Magazine. Scannell was nominated by President George H. Bush in 1989 to serve as Assistant Secretary of Labor for OSHA. During his leadership of OSHA from 1989 to 1992, Scannell lead the adoption of a new Standard for Process Safety for Highly Hazardous Chemicals and a Bloodborne Pathogens Standard. From 1992 to 1994, he served as VP of worldwide safety affairs for Johnson & Johnson, and in 1995, Scannell was named president and CEO of the National Safety Council. He was inducted into the Safety & Health Hall of Fame International in 1994.
Jim Lapping, PE, CSP

Jim Lapping is VP of Power Maintenance and Constructors LLC, O'Fallon, Ill. He served for four years as the Special Assistant for Construction and Engineering to the Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health. Lapping was also director of safety for the AFL-CIO Building Trades. Lapping, who received the 2000 ASSE Construction Safety Professional of the Year Award, is co-author of the OSHA Construction Safety Handbook.
Jeffery C. Camplin, CSP, CPEA

Jeff Camplin is president of Camplin Environmental Services Inc., Rosemont, Ill., a firm that provides safety and environmental consulting services, including asbestos, lead, indoor air quality and OSHA compliance assistance. Camplin has a bachelor's degree in occupational safety and health from Northern Illinois University. As a professional member in the ASSE, he is currently working with their environmental practice specialty to develop programs to help bridge the gap between the safety and environmental professions. He received ASSE's 2003 Presidents Award for his work with the USEPA's Lead Safe Work Practices initiative.

John Coniglio is executive VP of operations at Occupational Safety & Environmental Associates Inc., Orchard Park, N.Y., a safety consultation operation for both domestic and international assignments. Coniglio graduated from State University College of New York at Buffalo and has undergraduate degrees in fire protection, civil and industrial engineering technology, and a master's degree in environmental engineering. He is completing requirements for his Ph.D. in environmental engineering.
Dan Cote

Dan Cote is VP of safety and president of MEMIC Safety Services, a workers' compensation specialty insurer in Portland, Maine. Cote developed the company's safety consulting strategy in 1993 and continues to act as change agent for 20,000 policyholders. In 1996, he formed a subsidiary providing for the sale of safety consulting services across the country. An adjunct professor for safety and risk management for the University of Southern Maine (USM), Cote serves on their curriculum advisory committee.

Tom Bates is the Corporate Director, Safety, Environmental and Regulatory Affairs for International Flavors & Fragrances. He is a certified safety and industrial hygiene professional with experience in the chemical, pharmaceutical, fragrance and flavor industries He has a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Montclair State College, a master of science degree in Public Health from the University of North Carolina and a master of arts degree in Organizational Management from the University of Phoenix.

Soon after the passage of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970, ORC Worldwide formed its occupational safety and health group, composed of safety professionals, occupational physicians, industrial hygienists, and attorneys. This group represents a broad cross section of industry and provides a link between member companies and governmental occupational safety and health agencies. ORC Worldwide also maintains working relationships with various safety and health professional groups, major industry groups, and trade associations. The activities of the ORC Occupational Safety and Health Group are based on the premise that providing safe and healthful working conditions is the mutual responsibility of employers, employees and government, and that workers' health and safety is best protected with the cooperation and commitment of all these groups.
W. William Ament is responsible for monitoring all legal issues concerning the federal and state regulation of occupational and health. He manages the ORC Occupational Safety and Health Lawyers Group and advises the Lawyers Group members about cases and legal issues that are important to their companies' safety and health programs. He monitors and reports on all legislation affecting occupational safety and health programs. His areas of responsibility include OSHA recordkeeping, OSHA reform initiatives, comprehensive safety and health programs, noise, and OSHA enforcement policies. He has worked with member companies on a wide variety of occupational safety and health activities including enforcement, regulatory and legal matters.
W. William Ament served in various capacities with the United States Department of Labor, beginning in 1963, including service with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration from its inception in 1971, until joining ORC Worldwide in 1977. After Mr. Ament received a B.A. in economics from the University of Michigan, he was awarded a J.D. degree from the National Law Center of the George Washington University. He is a member of the Virginia State Bar, the District of Columbia Bar, and the United States Supreme Court Bar.
