Blogger Named as OSHA Head

Jordan Barab was named as deputy assistant secretary for OSHA. Barab is a senior policy advisor to the House Education and Labor Committee. Linda Solis, secretary of labor, announced that Barab will also serve as acting assistant secretary for OSHA until a permanent head is named.
 
Prior to his work on the committee, Barab worked for four years at the U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board. During his time at the board, Barab wrote “Confined Space,” a blog critical of OSHA’s handling of workplace safety during the Bush administration. Barab served as special assistant to the assistant director of Labor for OSHA from 1998 to 2001. He also directed the safety and health program for the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees from 1982 to 1998.

Barab is a graduate of Claremont McKenna College in California and earned a master's degree in international relations from Johns Hopkins University.
