It's Only a Scratch: The Human and Corporate Costs of Not Addressing Injuries Before They Happen

|
When employees get injured on the job, even if it's only a scratch (or a proverbial scratch, such as muscle aches and discomfort), they often don't seek help until their injuries are harder to treat, which reduces their likelihood of remaining on the job. There are many methods for recognizing and minimizing risks of injuries and preventing absence. However often employers and employees aren't aware of the benefit of prevention and early detection until it is too late.
In today's workplace, where human capital is an organization’s most valuable asset, it's critical for employers to design and implement integrated workers' compensation and disability management programs with other health and safety initiatives. Also, by using a business process automation approach to managing these integrated programs, organizations can collect information about their workplace environment, risk levels and loss drivers more efficiently, which in turn allows them to prioritize the right methodologies for reducing risk of injuries and therefore unnecessary absences. This comprehensive approach results in fewer claims filed, decreased workers' compensation and disability costs, increased return to work rates, and improved health management program utilization overall.
