Holistic Safety? Behavior-based Safety? Forget What You Call It, Here’s What Works

|
Are you confused by academic terms, catchall phrases, and claims by all the different internal and external consultants when it comes to choosing a culture change and behavioral improvement process for your company? Do I call or use this or that? Do I address attitudes or behaviors? How do I make sense out of everything I hear and read? How do I sort it all out?
Controversy exists regarding the most effective methods to changing an organizations’
S, H & E culture and preventing accidents and health/environmental incidents. Is behavior-based safety the most effective path? Many claim yes. We say by itself, no!
Do yourself a favor and forget what you call it! If the process improves your S, H and E culture, changes unsafe attitudes and behaviors of all levels of management and line employees, and addresses workplace hazards and system changes, it works!
We will discuss the merits of using a holistic, integrated approach, which involves both line & management employees and uses multiple methods to changing culture, unsafe attitudes and behaviors both on and off the job.
