Auditing is a Basic Tool in the Safety Professional’s Arsenal


Auditing is a basic tool in the safety professionals arsenal. With that said, the question being begged to ask is whether the safety professional is getting any meaning out of these audits? By “meaning” we are actually speaking of results. So the question becomes “what are the results of your audit”? This chain can be followed for some time, but in the end most safety professionals would say that they audit to prevent injuries. The big questions now is, does your audit program prevent injuries? That will be focus if this audio conference. The conference will dig into the question of whether your audit program is preventing injuries. It will do so by presenting some basic concepts on auditing, on program develop and than exploring the interrelationship that lead to the huge number of permeations that auditing can take. This sessions will discuss the management system view of auditing and than outline the elements necessary (or the questions that must be answered) for an audit program to have meaning.

William “Bob” Coffey

William “Bob” Coffey is a graduate of the State University of New York at Stony Brook, and holds degrees in both Chemistry and Psychology. He has worked in industries including electrical utility, pharmaceutical, specialty chemical, heavy manufacturing and paper manufacturing. Bob holds both the Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and Certified Professional Environmental Auditor (CPEA) designations, as well as being a Department of Homeland Security Instructor. Bob’s work has been instrumental in creating substantial reductions in recordable accidents and breaking records for consecutive days without lost time accidents. His training has reached thousands and his programs been implemented across the country. Bob has been published in Professional Safety Magazine, Occupational Health and Safety magazine and in local and regional newsletters.
